Top End Information

At the age of approximately 3 the Toddlers move up to the Top end. In this area there are places for up to 26 children from 3 to 5 years. The top end children are offered a wide range of activities carefully chosen to train pre-school skills, to give experience of number, shape and colour, to strengthen manipulative skills and foster imaginative and cooperative play. A good choice of construction toys, sand and water play, clay and playdough and opportunities for activities with glue, paint, woodwork and cooking are offered. There is a generous supply of books, some from the local library, and a quiet corner for stories, rhymes, conversation and occasional television. The Nursery is registered for Government funding. We had a very good OFSTED report and were commended on many aspects. There are regular music sessions for singing, percussion and singing games. Milk or water is provided in the morning and at other times on request. Lunch is provided at approximately 11.45am by the nursery. You are asked to provide a packed tea which they eat at about 4.00 p.m. There is one Early Years Specialist on staff to assist with the pre-school groups and for those preparing to transfer to school. Much use is made of the garden and outdoor play area. All parents are welcome to visit their children at lunch time and there is a high degree of parent participation in the Nursery. The Nursery is managed by a management committee of parents democratically elected each year by the parents. Parents of children who already have a place in the Nursery are eligible for a priority place on the waiting list for subsequent children as it is considered important to keep siblings together.
